Retro Chic, Retro Christmas-Why Are We Becoming So Retro?
The Retro Chic Weed
Like a pretty weed that you can’t quite let yourself pull out of the ground, retro chic is growing wildly but attractively. From retro toys to retro fashion, from the flying Scotsman making a retro comeback to the Beano and Ladybird emerging out of the dust-the list is endless. Like anything subjective it is a question of personal taste but given the pace of the growth of retro chic, one assumes that quite a lot of people like it.
Retro Chic For Christmas
It is a curious thing, as the line between being out of fashion and retro is pretty thin. Like history it seems that the unfashionable and retro are cyclical. Retro in the clothing industry has been around for a long time so that is nothing remarkable, however the consumer market is filling up with so many other retro offerings-far more than I can remember, ever before in my medium-sized lifetime!
Wandering around the web, trying my best to be a bit more organised in time for Christmas, as normally it is a close to Christmas eve shopping affair, I have seen so many charming offerings. First aid kits for kids with ladybird book tins, garden croquet sets, retro games compendiums and some stuff that not so long ago any self respecting person wouldn’t have been seen dead with, but now is trendy retro chic.
Are we perhaps becoming more sentimental? Of course there is a fashion and trend influence, but what is underlying the strength of the growth? Are we fondly thinking of times gone by when it seemed like life was easier and trying to re-create a more charming world?
The more I see the more likely I think this may be part of the trend. Let’s face it whenever you draw your attention to something then it seems like it is all over the place. You know the score-you’re considering buying a particular brand of trainers or checking out a holiday destination or a new car model, and lo and behold everywhere you turn the item starts to pop up visually or in conversation.
Retro Chic-A Pleasant Plague?
For me it seems like a pleasant plague when it comes to the retro chic growth. Maybe it’s time to join those who are immersing themselves in it and do a make-over to my home so that once I go home I think I am living in the 1950s. Or should I go for the 1960s, they seemed like a lot of fun! What about a retro Christmas; I reckon this would multiply the benefits of the Christmas holidays.
